I LOVE TO WALK THE HERRMAN BEACH

I LOVE TO WALK THE HERRMAN BEACH

Sunrise, 6 AM
Consolea Millspaughii (no common name) a rare cactus
Forest photo from the blufftop looking across the green wetland

I love to walk The Herrman Beach
Very early in the day
Sargassum weed pushed on the sand
Night-herons poking there for prey

Into the wind, easterly
Pushing spray into my face
Tracks of birds and soon in June
Tracks of turtles as I pace

My specs are hidden safe from salt
As I walk the water’s edge
Else I’d be too blind to see
Swallows zipping past my head

Am I here? I’m like an Ancient
Old as the sand I walk upon
A green isle set in Carib Sea
As the eons still roll on

Freely forever set aside
This sea and seagrape-bounded strand
Of ever changing sea and sand
So part of earth will still abide

Just a sublim’nal glimpse we see
The waves will set my footprints free
For fathomless eternity
Our bounden duty: Let it be
